A winter visit to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon reveals a magical transformation of one of nature’s greatest wonders. The snowy blanket that covers the canyon adds a serene beauty, with the white snow contrasting dramatically against the red and orange hues of the canyon walls. The lower crowds during these months make for a peaceful and quieter experience.

March – October 2024 Steam Train
In addition to the daily departures throughout the year, March kicks off Steam Saturdays. The Grand Canyon Railway’s First Saturday Steam Train Rides are a unique and nostalgic journey back to the golden era of rail travel. Operating on select dates from March to October, these operational steam locomotives offer passengers a rare glimpse into the history of train travel.
Not just limited to the First Saturdays, the railway also commemorates Earth Day, Steam Engine 4960’s Birthday, and Grand Canyon Railway’s Anniversary with exclusive steam train rides.

In addition to the regularly scheduled daily departures, November is famous for the start of the Grand Canyon Railway’s Polar Express! Based on the classic children’s book by Chris Van Allsburg and the animated film, this enchanting train ride is an immersive experience that recreates the story’s magic.
The Polar Express is offered on select dates from November 8th through December 30th, 2024. The ride lasts a little over an hour, with the train leaving each night at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
Due to the popularity of Polar Express, it’s highly recommended to book months in advance for your preferred dates.
